HOLT — “Vision for the Future” has been and continues to be an apt description of Stuart Goodrich approach to many of the goals he has sought to achieve in life. That vision, and his tireless volunteer work in the community, and with the Holt Lions, has earned him a spot on the Michigan Lions Hall of Fame. Holt Lions Club was founded in 1968, and it was also the beginning of Goodrich Optical. Forty-five years later, he still puts in a full day at work and is the sole remaining Charter Member of the Holt Lions Club. Serving his profession as a Certified and Licensed Optician, Goodrich is a former President of the Opticians Association of Michigan, Chairman of the Commission for Opticianry Accreditation, U.S. Department of Education. A Director on the Opticianry Advisory Committees at both Ferris State University and Southern Michigan State Prison. He still serves, after 18 years, as a Board Member of the Michigan Braille Transcribing Fund. His service to his community includes positions on the Boards of Holt and Ingham Intermediate School Districts. As founding Chair of the Delhi Downtown Development Authority, his service helped bring many new businesses to the community. He continued that service with election to the Delhi Township Board in 1992 and concluding in 2012 after serving 10 years as township supervisor. Along the way Stuart has received the “Unsung Hero” award from WLNS-TV, Community Service Person of the Year from The South Lansing Business Association, and an “Appreciation Award” from Radio Talking Book, WKAR Radio, Michigan State University, being “The Driving Force In Saving The Program By Involving Lions” Concurrent with his community service, Stuart has served Lionism with 45 years of perfect attendance since becoming a Holt Lion. Serving in every position within the club at one point or another, some multiple times, and sponsoring 45 new members, he helped build not only the club, but the community. Stuart served on the International Convention Committee for 20 years, nine of those as chairman. He has been recognized with the 100 percent President’s award, 100 percent District Governor’s award, Ken Lautzenheiser Fellowship Award, S. A. Dodge Distinguished Service Award, Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, International President’s Award, International President’s Leadership Award, has received the International President’s Certificate of Appreciation three times and been awarded a Lions Clubs International Life Membership.
