HOMETOWN HERO: Moran Prairie fourth grader Steven Troupin was recently honored by the American Red Cross as a Hometown Hero. When his mother collapsed at home while suffering a severe asthma attack, Steven showed great courage as he spoke with a 9-1-1 emergency operator and provided directions to their apartment. When he heard the approaching sirens, Steven reassured his mom and went outside to help direct the truck through the apartment complex. The firefighters thanked him saying, “Great job, buddy!” as they ran to help his mother. After being treated at the hospital, his mom made a full recovery. “I’m forever grateful for my son’s courage and ability to remain calm when I needed help, she said. He’s my hero.” Steven was awarded the Youth Humanitarian Hero Award and recognized at a luncheon in front of more than 500 people, including Spokane Mayor David Condon.
