HOW DESMOND ELLIOT INSPIRED ME! All these years Ive been watching him on TV, Ive always seen his name being displayed as Desmond Elliot. Even when he introduces himself in the interviews Ive either watched or listened to, he never missed calling himself just Desmond Elliot. Then...he joined politics! And the boldest name on display on his campaign posters suddenly becomes Olusola - the other names allocated a negligible font size. This surprised not a few people, including my humble self. Desmond has even won the primary election under APC to represent Surulere State constituency in Lagos. Indeed Im highly impressed. For all its worth, Desmond Elliot may indeed be a full-blooded Lagosian; Im certainly not questioning his origin. Far from it! But then, he took us by surprise, didnt he? So much that politics can do. Now, to the crux of the matter. Heres how Desmond Elliot Olusola has inspired me. You all know Ive been nursing a subtle interest in politics, right? Now, for those of you who have been wondering how I came about my name: Oga Ode, the lid has finally been blown open. I just got revelation that in addition to my being from Benue, I might have either Yoruba or Igbo roots; I really dont know the connexion between these two. The relatives who came forth with this news are ready to swear to sango or even amadioha. A woman told me that since my great grandfather sojourned in Yoruba land, he may have named me OlusOGA ODEyemi which was thereafter shortened by my parents for ease of pronunciation. I am beginning to see some truth in this. There appears to be a little snag, though. One of my uncles who believes strongly in my Igbo roots insists that my real name is OGAdinma ODEnigbo. I have taken so much pain to reveal these important details to you, my dear friends, so that when I eventually get into mainstream politics, you wont raise eyebrows.
