HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR LIFE? by Bob Stacy, Spring Hill Church of Christ Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope. Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles. The proud hold me in utter contempt, but I do not turn away from Your instructions. I meditate on your age-old regulations. O Lord, they comfort me. I become furious with the wicked, because they reject Your instructions. Your decrees have been the theme of my songs wherever I have lived. I reflect at night on who you are, O Lord; therefore, I obey Your instructions. This is how I spend my life: obeying Your commandments (Psalm 119:49-56). Notice the very last sentence of this portion of Psalm 119. As I read those words this morning, touched my heart. I asked myself, Is that how I spend my life? What a sobering question for all of us who are His children? And Im afraid few of us could answer that question in the affirmative. The culture in which we live pulls us in every direction, and so we spend our lives in pursuit of wealth or in running after pleasure of all kinds. There is one simple test that may answer that question for us: WHERE WILL WE BE WHEN GODS PEOPLE MEET AT HIS TABLE THIS WEEK? Another might be: WHERE WILL WE BE WHEN HIS PEOPLE CALL UPON US TO SERVE IN SOME CAPACITY, WHETHER GREAT OR SMALL? And still another: HOW OFTEN DO WE OPEN THE WORD IN ORDER TO KNOW HIS COMMANDMENTS? The questions are easy to formulate. The answers are difficult and result in very some very deep searching of the soul. How much praise wed bring to the Heavenly Father if we could answer with the Psalmist: This is how I spend my life: obeying Your commandments (Psalm 119:56).
