HOW SICAT CHANGED MY LIFE People come and go in our lives but there are those who leave lasting memories and make a great impact in our lives. When I was young, never did I imagine that I would become a teacher. Now, I believe that things do not happen but they are made to happen. I graduated high school from SICAT in 1998. I must say that my four years in high school were the fruitful years of my life. One particular thing that I am most thankful of was that spark that ignited my passion for writing. I was in my senior year then when my English teacher, Mr. Frederick B. Samiling, tapped my potential in writing. I didn’t know I had it. I just enjoyed writing compositions as required by our Language teachers. I was beaming with pride as I had my first medal and my first plane ticket because of joining press conferences. I still think until now that it must be a beginner’s luck and the odds were in my favor then. I consider that as an awakening. I have never been confident about myself since then. It set me apart from the rest and it pulled me away from mediocrity. Part of me found a space where I really belong. Apart from the vocational and academic skills that I learned from SICAT, I am also thankful for the gift of friendship and courage. Those were the years when I met teachers who have influenced me so much. They made me realize that I should not shrink into a grain of sand and that I must strive harder to reach my dreams. There I found friends for keeps who shared with me the happiest stage of my life. It must be by luck or fate that I am teaching now in SCNHS which used to be a part of SICAT. Every corner of the school reminds me of the triumphs celebrated, challenges conquered, and potentials unleashed. SICAT is a big part of who I am today and the greatest salute goes to my former teachers whom some are my colleagues now. Working becomes a breeze because my mentors are with me. I am rich in experience and a wealth of words because of SICAT. It has equipped me necessary armor and skills to win the battles in my life though it has also taught me to kneel in battles that I couldn’t win. Ma. Socorro D. Pascual Secondary School Teacher
