HOW THEY CELEBRATE IN BULAWaYO: Highlanders put on a dominant display against Monomotapa when they completed a double over the visitors by beating them 2-0 in a Castle Lager PSL match this afternoon at Barbourfields. REPORT BY GDN A resurgent midfield marshalled by the enterprising Mthulisi Maphosa caused problems for Monoz, who kept chasing shadows throughout the game. Monoz have had a tale of misfortunes in at Barbourfields. They also crushed out of the BancABC cup on Saturday. An 81st minute strike by Gabriel Nyoni sealed the day for Highlanders after Bruce Kangwa had scored the first goal. Nyoni gave a celebration that shook the whole stadium when he pulled down his shorts to reveal black and white stripped underwear. But the celebration was short lived as the youngster was show a yello card while Dumisani ‘Fazo’ Ndlovu was also cautioned for coming back onto the pitch late after celebrating the goal. Bosso opened the flood gates moments after the half time break when Bruce Kangwa laid in a screamer shot that beat Monoz goalie, Tapiwa Zvaita. Zvaita, a former Railstars shot stopper had a hard time between the posts. Bosso piled up pressure and the goalie was found wanting on a number of occasions. In second half as the game progressed Bosso employed a more tactical game with switches within midfield that made it easy for the strike force duo of Nyoni and Masimba Mambare to create scoring opportunities. Nyoni had a series of miscues and could have finished it off with more goals. Mambare registered his return to BF after a month by his trademark long range shots. He mesmerized the defence but still failed to find the net. Although captain Innocent Mapuranga was not in his best, he gained applause when he wedged a goal bound effort by Monoz in 41st minute. That was one of a few chances that Monoz had to steal the game in the opening stages. In that Monoz raid, Zvikomborero Biseki exchanged neat passes with another youthful midfielder, Praise Tonha, only for his effort to be blocked by Mapuranga. Indeed Monoz were whipped into line in a game that had a full package of entertainment for Bosso fans. Thw win moved Highlanders to just a point behind Dynamos and Harare City who are tied on 38 points with Dynamos with a better goal difference. Highlanders coach, Kevin Kaindu, said it was good to bounce back to winning ways. He was elated at Nyoni’s goal and kept laughing at the scene. “We are back. It was good for us. I think Monomotapa have always given us problems but we made sure to close them in,” said the Zambian expat. Biggie Zuze was visibly disappointed. He conceded defeat and said the visitors were just too strong for them. “It has been difficult for us towards coming to Bulawayo and got nothing. Weare disappointed. “Highlanders played better football. The league is still on and we will finish at a respectable position,” said the Monoz coach.. #gdn
