HP Slate 21 Price: Rs 24,990 Rating: 4.5/5 Specs: 21.5-inch IPS Full HD touchscreen, Android v4.2, NVIDIATegra 4 quad core processor, 1 GB RAM, 8GB internal, Wi-Fi, HDMI All-in-ones are undoubtedly the future of home computing, while Android has already become the most popular smartphone operating system. HP has now merged these too in the HP Slate 21, a stylish AiO running Android Jelly Bean (4.2). The design is very stylish with an all-white and very compact. The 21-inch Full HD IPS panel is stunningly good and also comes with touch. Just below it, in a strip running all across, is the speaker which gives good sound output. All the buttons, for power, volume and brightness control, are on the right side and easily accessible. There is a USB port, a 3.5mm audio jack and a card-reader on the right, while all other ports are tucked behind a flap in the rear. In the box are a keyboard and mouse - again white - that take up two of these ports. HP could have made these wireless, but cost considerations seem to have come in the way. Running Android, the AiO spring to life in under 10 seconds. Once on and you are done with the HP logo, you are on the homescreen, which is in no way different from what you would see on a smartphone or tablet running this OS. While you would have a mental block against using Android for daily computing, I think this will find takers for whom their computing device was an Android phone or tablet. Since there is not much learning involved, this AiO can be recommended for children as well as the elderly. You can do everything you want to on this AiO, but I was skeptical about using this for work. That is why I used the preloaded KIngsoft Office to write this copy and did not encounter any trouble at any point. To test the processing power of the NVIDIA Tegra 4 that is soul of this AiO we downloaded some power hogging games. While most of the games rendered well on this new processor, some -- especially those that depended on the gyro -- could not be installed or could not be played. But if there was any doubt about the abilities of the Tegra 4 processor, the AnTuTu benchmark put that to rest. The HP Slate 21 scored an amazing 30389, which put it way ahead of leaders HTC One and Samsung Galaxy 4, though these too are smartphones. Sadly, there is just 8GB of internal memory in the device and for the rest you have depend on a memory card. The Slate 21 is an interesting device and highly recommended for those want to push Android to the next level. And remember, it is priced like a tablet.
