HRB Approves Demolition of Former CMS From: news@originalcompany Further News on Developing Issues _____________________________ (Vincennes, IN) -- There will be fewer buildings in downtown Vincennes following two decisions by the Vincennes Historic Review Board. The old Clark Middle School on the block surrounded by Buntin, 6th, Perry, and 5th Streets will be torn down as part of the Clark Crossing senior apartment project across 6th street. 36 parking spaces will be located on the cleared area as well as green space along both 6th and 5th streets. The tunnel under Sixth Street will also be filled in as part of the demolition. Developer Andy Myszak says the old building will be torn down beginning at the end of November or beginning of December. Board members asked that any stone architectural elements be saved for reuse. Myszak said that would be considered should it be possible. In an unrelated matter, the HRB approved the removal of a strip of retail buildings along 5th Street between Busseron and Main Streets. Pioneer Oil has purchased all the retail buildings along that side of the block and asked to remove half of them to allow for more parking. Pioneer will move its headquarters from Lawrenceville to the old Hills building on Main Street on the same block and needs space for its employees to park. The Board approved the demolitions and parking plan after asking for some landscaping with the project. Pioneer also has purchased the retail building on the 4th Street side of the same block, but did not ask to remove the building which now contains Perry Furniture.
