HURRICANE GONZALO: UPDATE ANGUILLA MAKING STEADY PROGRESS TOWARDS RECOVERY The Valley, Anguilla – Hurricane Gonzalo impacted Anguilla on Monday 13th October 2014 causing damage primarily to utility infrastructure, vegetation and beaches. The Public is advised of the following updated information from the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) regarding the recovery effort : ROADS Primary and secondary roads are now 100% cleared except for Jeremiah Gumbs Highway. Crews continue to be dispatched to clean the edges of the road for the recovery stage. The traffic lights at Lakes junction are working and the traffic lights in West End and Easy Corner are currently being repaired. HEALTH SERVICES The Polyclinic, Valley Health Centre and the Dental unit were opened today Wednesday 15th October. PORTS The Blowing Point ferry port was opened today Wednesday 15th October. The public is advised that there are only 2 vessels running at the moment and they will run hourly and the last boat leaving Anguilla is scheduled at 5pm. The port will operate 7am - 6pm. EDUCATION/SCHOOLS Schools will remain closed until electricity has been restored and the Ministry of Education will continue to update the public. UTILITIES AND COMMUNICATIONS ANGLEC – Steady progress is being made in the restoration process. Parts of the following areas have been re-energized:The Valley Stoney Ground The ForestRey Hill The Quarter George Hill Western Jeremiah Gumbs Highway Lockrum Anguilla Water Corporation – The relevant authorities are working diligently to restore water service. As the situation changes updates will be provided. LIME personnel are working diligently to fully restore communications by mobile and fixed lines. The public is asked to be patient while works continue. The public is reminded to pay due diligence to road conditions as they commute. Repair and road clearance crews continue to work diligently in efforts to restore Anguilla to pre-Gonzalo status and the public is asked to be patient and respect those who are working tirelessly towards this goal.
