HUT Pujangga Laras ingkang kaping 13, wau dalu, pas upacara tumpengan. Pujangga Laras started its 13 year last night at the home of Ki Purbo Asmoro. (apologies, its mas Wakidis first video attempt with his cellphone!)-- Pujangga Laras is a routine, monthly gathering of the elderly musician community in Solo. It was founded in 2001 by a small committee of 8 people (4 Americans, 1 Canadian, 3 Javanese) and has continued to this day, complete now with 144 klenengan having taken place, in 16 locations across the greater Solo area. We have had 57 different sponsors over the years, from USA, Japan, Canada, France, the UK, Australia, Singapore, Italy, and Holland. The goal of the community, when it started, was simply to help the founders own teachers out financially, who were suffering from the monetary crisis of the late 1990s, while at the same time giving the elder musicians a chance to gather across affiliations and socialize, interact, play music-- a forum to use however they like and for whatever reason, as their community was more and more losing its chances to perform in public.
