#HWSOrigins | Headhunterz vs. Abject - End Of My Existence / Scantraxx Rootz | 2007.005 “I woke up in the middle of a dark vicinity. And had the intense feeling of being watched. The silence forced me to listen to my own heavy breathing. I panicked. I knew this was my final destination. The extreme resistance of my own body made me pass out. The dark chamber became even darker. This had to be it…the end of my existence.” It’s for good reason that producer Barry Drooger is called ‘The Melody man’. Today, we know him as Frontliner, but he used to do a thing or two under the Abject alias. Collaborating with Headhunterz was one of those things, and it has resulted in the unforgettable and eerie tune ‘End Of My Existence’. In 2007, shortly after Heady’s collab with The Prophet hit in, Willem receives a piece of music from the Abject studio. He instantly falls for its melody. However, the tracks needs some tweaking. And so, Barry and Willem decide to collaborate and create that magic together. Willem boosts it with a booming kick, writes its dark lyrics and invites the former wife of his dad to sing the chords. The result: a sublime, melancholic masterpiece. Willem:”At that time, I love the contrast in the track. The best melodies always contain different emotions. In the beginning there’s this kind of despair, but then a certain chord resounds and it feels liberating. The same thing happens in ‘End Of My Existence’. You start off with desperation, but once the melody hits in there’s a glimpse of hope, a chance at victory. It’s laughter and crying, melancholy. I love it.”
