Hackers was sort of a nebulous, mysterious, - TopicsExpress

Hackers was sort of a nebulous, mysterious, not-exactly-positive-but- definitely-glamorous… thing (job? hobby? mission?) when I was in my 20s. I think they even made a stupid movie called Hackers in the 90s that had Christian (had to Google his has-been name) Slater in it. I KNOW I heard many a fawning starry-eyed story on NPR about these hacker kids who hacked all day and rocked out all night (or vice-versa). Dig these wacky hacking kids, why dont cha? Wasnt Sandra Bullock a hacker in some 90s movie? She hacked on the beach wearing a fetching black bikini and could afford a huge bad-ass apartment in some major coastal city, as I recall from the previews. I guess maybe this was because the internet was still in its relative infancy at the time and so the corporate media (as I was trained to call it in college) hadnt yet thought through the potential ramifications of hacking skills yet. So… NOW Hackers are bad. Were they ever good? Damn… I am just SO old! ;)
