Had a late lunch at a hawker centre when one of the aunties selling tissues came up to offer me her wares. Five for $1 - it was a better deal than the three for $1. Unfortunately Id bought the latter from another couple some time back, and had no immediate use for them... so I said, no. The story doesnt end here though. The elderly lady went on her way through the sparse centre, but nary got a response. I thought, perhaps if I had a dollar, I could get some after all... tissues dont expire after all. I rummaged through my pockets, and did find change for one. So I walked up after her... and still I saw her receiving rejections with cold hard stares. Wasnt this supposed to be Christmas? I tapped her on her shoulder and passed her a dollar, she smiled in gratefulness and offered the five packets. I declined. She beamed, and began wishing me an incessant stream of blessings for me and my family - those you usually hear one give others at a traditional Chinese temple or during the Lunar New Year. All these... for a dollar. But really, simply priceless. We say Christmas is a season of giving. Many of us dont bat an eyelid when we buy expensive gifts for others, sometimes even ourselves. But the best gifts, in my opinion, are those from whom you can receive a genuine reaction from. And in the same vein of thought, everyday can be Christmas too. Happy Holidays, my friends!
