Had a really fun night despite my old back injury flaring up, my ole friend and brother Keith Brown was in the house and we got a chance to catch up and even reminisced on the Elis Mile High club days, he reminded me of a funny story!! One night we went to the club and I tried to get in (I was only 19 or 20 and somehow I had pissed off Barbara the door lady as I often did and she would not let me in, so I went around back and tried to climb the fence, somehow I ended up cutting myself on the fence and couldnt make it over, Keith came out to see if I was ok, as I sat there bleeding and talking to him Troyce Key came out to see what the commotion was, he looked at me and said boy, what the heck are you doing and I said Barb wont let me in!! He walked me around to the front door and told me I owe Barbara an apology and that she was just doing her job keeping under age kids out of the club. Troyce then looked at Barbara and said let him in and if the police come, tell them he works here and proceeded to walk me in through the front door! Somehow looking back I sensed Troyce knew in his heart I wasnt any trouble and just wanted to listen to the blues legends that would perform at the Club!! Ill never ever forget Troyce Keys Kind heart and stern deep voice!! Son, you better behave and pay attention because one day you will be a blues man I can see it in your soul the rest is history!!
