Had my first bad experience last night since I had surgery three - TopicsExpress

Had my first bad experience last night since I had surgery three weeks ago. I got super cold and was shaking and trembling uncontrollably; it was midnight. I turned the heat up to like 74. Took my temperature and it was 101. Took two aspirin and had a cup of tea and was able to fall asleep all bundled up around 2 a.m. Woke up at 3:30 soaking wet, so the fever broke. Changed clothes and was able to sleep until 7 a.m. Called the heart surgeons nurse around 10 a.m. and she said for me to come right in, but I couldnt drive. I explained I had no one to bring me. She said shed call me right back. When she called back, shed arranged for a taxi to pick me up and drive me all the way to St. Joseph Hospital on the north side at no expense to me, except the tip. *cry* I was so touched. The doctor drained the area where the veins were removed from my leg, and prescribed an antibiotic that I have to take four times a day. I go back on Monday and might have to be drained again. I also told the heart surgeons nurse about all the things the home health nurse was having me do; most of which I objected to because of all the instructions I got before being released from the hospital. She had me putting lotion on the vein area; which could be the cause of the problems I had in that area. Yesterday she took all the bandages off my sternum even though I protested saying that I was told to leave them on until they fell off on their own. She told me to put lotion on those wounds too, but I didnt. Shes also been giving me a hard time about taking two pain pills at 7 p.m. By that time every night, I feel like Ive been through a lot. I could be taking two pills every four hours, but have not. So, the heart surgeons nurse called the home health company and had them discharge me. The heart surgeons nurse also called to make sure I got home okay and picked up my prescription. She told me that I wont be hearing from the home health care nurse anymore, and I couldnt be happier. Im still in a state of shock at how nicely I was treated today. Its pretty much unheard of in todays society. I am very, very grateful that I am getting such great care. It means the world to me.
