Had quite the scare earlier today! Went for a 6 mile ride (just walking) with Jessica at 3:30 pm and got back at 5:30. We were gonna go out for some Chinese but just as soon as I let Breyer loose in the corral, he just stood there and had absolutely no interest in his grain (1st clue there was something wrong). Piggo who loves grain did not want to eat. Then at 5:45, he was down for about 5 minutes. This was very unusual of him since he never allows me to be so close to him while hes down, but here I was standing there rubbing his head. I went to open the corral gate and he got up so I put the halter back on and within 3-4 minutes he was back down again. Jess came back just as he was going down but then he got up again as I was walking over too the tank. But when I came back, he went down yet again. Now it was getting more serious and I was starting to get nervous. We got him up again and started walking him. He tried several more times to go down but we kept him moving. I decided too take him out of the corral and onto the street so it wouldnt be so tempting to lay down on the hard cement. Well the trick worked and it was easier to keep him going. Jess dashed back to her trailer to get Breyer some pro-biotics and gave it to him shortly there after, then we continued walking him. It wasnt until David, Tad and Dustin got back from scouting, which was around 7:30, that Breyer finally started to nibble on some grass and by 9:45 I turned him loose again in the corral. I plan to check on him every couple of hours throughout the night just to make sure he is still improving. Colic can be deadly, but if its caught early, death can be prevented. Breyer may be getting older, but Im not ready to lose him just yet. Hes been a big part off my family for 18+ years and I hope he will be around for another 10
