Had the awful experience this morning of showing up to a new studio to be taken into a room filled with girls their mums for a costume fitting. 28 staring, silent girls. 28 staring mothers who talked loudly about us as though we werent there. It wasnt nasty - they were excited that now the team will win many eisteddfods this year, apparently??? Nobody attempted speaking to us, just about us. One gushing studio owner who kept declaring he is so cute (he hates that!) and one costume maker who insisted upon referring to the little boy (because the poor child needed this difference/novelty fact pointed out over and over. It was all I could do not to shout He has a name, and is here because he enjoys ballet. He is not here to amuse you or bring your daughters trophies. Thankfully, my son is more gracious than I, and by pickup time three hours later had introduced himself to several girls and was enjoying their company. He had taken his place (in the centre of the choreography of course) held his head high, and smiled as the group demonstrated what they had learned today. So very different from what we are used to. I think Im going to need this group to talk me through eisteddfod season!
