Had the real duck hunting experience this morning. Up at quarter to 5 am, in the blind with the still indigo dark horizon, crystalline ice flows on the water and frost on the decoys. Followed up by losing my phone and searching for 45 minutes in the cat tails and along the slough in a quarter-section of canola stubble, then retrieving the decoys in that thigh chilling water and stumbling over a rock pile out in the middle of the slough and taking a polar bear morning swim in 4 feet of water (the bloody dog never even got wet this morning). I just loved that feeling of the water gradually working its way all the way down inside my waders to my socks. But anyway, I didnt get skunked: 2 mallards and snow goose.
