Haiti Update - Week 2 Hello, family and friends! We are in day - TopicsExpress

Haiti Update - Week 2 Hello, family and friends! We are in day 3 of our week at Haiti Home of Hope. We arrived at about 3:30 after about a 3 1/2 hour drive from Port-au-Prince. Just outside of Pignon, our bus driver discovered that he hadnt turned on the air conditioning! But that was okay, most of our team had left Iowa with cold and rainy weather. A number of us fell asleep on the crazy bus ride simply because we were tired from the plane flights and short night. To all of us newbies it was amazing to see the reality of Haiti after only hearing about it. After arriving we got acquainted with everyone and settled in for the night. Friday we started getting to know the children at the orphanage and some were greeting old friends. The growth and development of many children in the last year is evident to those who have been here. There are currently 41 children here at the orphanage and we are hearing a bit of the story of 3-4 of the children each evening. Many work projects have been started. Russ, Darrell, and Tim put together the swing set that Orchard Hill bought for the orphanage. Bill and Jennifer decided it would be for the girls and it is getting great use! It was hard to keep the girls off of it during construction, but so much fun to watch them enjoy it. Everyone has been working on the new home being built. There is painting to be done, plumbing, wiring, cleaning, grouting, sealing the floors, etc. Melissa, Kathy, Pat, and Bernie have been working with the children doing some craft projects. Some beautifully painted and sealed rocks are about done and they will be given by the children to the two they all call mom and dad, Bill and Jennifer. There have also been numerous home visits to families that visit the clinic here. The visits are simply to check on them. It also helps us to see the real reality of Haitian life. There have also been a number of drop in mothers requesting care for themselves or their babies. A trip to the market today was another real indoctrination to Haitian life. Absolutely amazing for us first timers. Alexa, Tim, Adrienne, Jamie, and Emma chose to climb the mountain nearby under the leadership of one of the young men here at the orphanage. His name is Wisley and he is 19 years old. Some of you will know him as a key leader and a great soccer player. No one told the newbies about the reality of climbing the mountain until their return, then they were simply laughing at them as they walked (or should I say dragged) themselves up the lane back to HHH (Haiti Home of Hope). Tomorrow morning we are off to church! Will be fun to all worship together! We hope you all have great worship there! We will try to connect with you again soon depending on internet availability. Thanks for your many prayers! We are feeling uplifted, encouraged, and inspired. Blessings, Tim and Diane
