Halito Yao Kephra! The more I thought about your great question on Paleo-Americans, the more intense the feeling I had that it would be of a great disservice for me to haphazardly fail to mention or consider the origin of creation stories found throughout the Americas and particularly the stories found in both the Popol Vuh of Guatemala and the Maya-Mixtec Codices of Mexico. The Popol Vuh in particular documents the old stories beginning with the CREATION OF EARTH, SKY, MOUNTAINS, RIVERS AND ANIMALS, then FIRST MAN and their destruction, on to SECOND MAN and marks the beginning of their descendants (ancestors of modern man), along with genealogies of First Peoples, essentially through to the Maya K’iche (or Quiche) and leaves off at the point of European Contact, for obvious reasons. In my opinion, the Maya-Mixtec Codices of Mexico accomplishes the same task as the Popol Vuh, only it deals with the humble beginnings of the original people through Dynastic Development of the kingdoms of Mexico marked by the genealogies of the Rulers, many of whom were thoroughly Black as we have seen. The Men of Pedregal were unorganized Olmec/Coyoacan, they may be considered Paleo-Americans. They became Olmec by organization and therein focused political rule. Yes, I’m sure you must be thinking something similar to, “this is the same premise as the Bible”, but occurring thousands of miles away from what man supposed was the cradle of civilization. To further cloud history of the Americas via censorship of aboriginal stories, Europeans discounted (as they continue to discount) these aboriginal records as “creation mythology”, even though it is the documented reality of the people who wrote it with virtually the same passion as the Holy Bible written in the old world. I don’t have any love lost for the Dominican Friars who helped to usher in European Christianity, but I must give props to at least the most famous two who were really local natives converted to Christianity, brave enough to work from the inside to hide or shield these documents in the face of great peril and very grave danger to themselves if discovered; Ximenez saved the Popol Vuh for book-burnings, while de Guzman also hid and saved the Maya-Mixtec Codices from complete destruction. Guzman was subsequently put on trial by the Spaniards for heresy. His trial record helped us to understand that he was a Mulatto descendant of original Black Rulers depicted in the Maya-Mixtec Codices, so he used his position to protect his family’s ancient genealogy, Mexico’s Maya-Mixtec Codices. I call them Black Indian Holy Books. To haphazardly reject creation lore wherein Black ancestors arose from the soil, as being somehow less important than extra-continental DNA contributors would not be fair, even if both were as ancient as the soil itself. So, please understand that I do acknowledge the Men of Pedregal, Olmec, Guatemalans of the Popol Vuh, Maya-Mixtec, Miraflorez and others as other Paleo-Americans who became organized cultures along with extra-continental DNA contributors and descendants or subsequent generations of Paleo-cultures (as suggested by the Popol Vuh), making them Aboriginal and Indigenous with modern descendants throughout the Americas. More food for thought; Modern Pacific Islanders use pidgin or an insulting slang to refer to Black Americans on the mainland as “Popolo” or “Popolo Man”, meaning “African” or “African American.” Yet, neither we, nor they have ever stopped to consider why it was that the term was meant to envelop African Americans or Africans on the mainland of the Americas. However, when one considers “Popol Vuh” as the creation story of the original community of the Americas, it draws us ever closer to our real native heritage through “Popolo”. Think about it! Why would Polynesians believe the word most similar to Popol Vuh was an insult? I think because it has something to do with distancing themselves from all things African. Let us open our eyes and minds to these insult words, like “Popolo” and “Mayate” (as Mexicans call us), which mean Black Americans or African Americans and own those words, really own them. Both words “Popolo” and “Mayate” have root origins in America, Melanesia and Africa. As always, for your viewing pleasure, I have consulted locations information, on Popol—root “Popo” and Mayate root “Maya”.
