Hampshire County car dealers accused of deceptive ads BOSTON (WWLP) – The four car dealerships owned by Carla and Thomas Cosenzi have agreed to pay $175,000 following state allegations of misleading advertising. According to a news release sent to 22News by the office of the state attorney general, they received complaints about the marketing practices of Northampton Volkswagen, Country Hyundai, Country Nissan, and Patriot Buick GMC. “As part of the investigation, the AG’s office found that the defendants allegedly refused to sell vehicles in accordance with advertised terms or conditions. This included advertising certain sales or promotions that did not disclose all necessary or usual charges, and advertising sales or promotions without clearly and conspicuously disclosing all conditions,” the release states. The AG also accused the dealerships of not paying the advertised price for trade-ins, or disclosing other conditions on the offer. Carla and Thomas Cosenzi deny the allegations, but fully cooperated with the investigation, the AG’s office says. The 22News I-Team contacted Carla Cosenzi Wednesday afternoon, and she issued the following statement: “We always felt our advertising was up to compliance; however, it was not up to AG guidelines. We used standard disclosures and template advertising. Once we were notified our advertising was inconsistent with the AG guidelines, we took immediate action and pulled all our advertising and took action to correct our advertising which has resulted in changes in the way we review our advertising prior to publication. We now have full transparency in all of our advertising.” “We pride ourselves on maintaining the highest possible standards and treating our customers right as well as complying with all laws and regulations.” “We take great pride in our reputation in the community and in treating our customer fairly.” The AG’s office says that the settlement will be paid over the next six months. Northampton Volkswagen and Country Hyundai are located in Northampton, while Country Nissan is in Hadley and Patriot Buick GMC is located in Charlton.
