Handout No.1 Peshawar 22nd November 2014 KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that speedy work is being started on all small and medium hydel power stations in the province and during next three months 20 mega watt electricity would be included in the national grid. He was speaking to a delegation which called on him in the leadership of MNA Ibadullah Khan and MPA Reshad Khan here in CM Secretariat Peshawar. Besides, Provincial Minister for Energy & Power, Mohammad Atif Khan, and higher authorities of Pakhtunkhwa Hydro Development Organization (PADO), chairman, CM Complaints’ Cell Haji Dilroz Khan and General Secretary PTI KP, Khalid Masood were also present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that till next month work on three other hydel projects would also be started in the province. The electricity generated from the micro-hydel power stations would be supplied to far-flung villages and towns, which would not only bring the hours long load shedding to an end rather would also help promote house hold industries and tourism. He said that the initiative would also increase the environmental beauty, which is part of their strategy. He said that good news for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is that the high court has rejected writ against 84 MW Mataltan and 69MW Lawi power stations. He said that the re-tendering of 150 MW hydel power projects in Swat and Chitral has been approved. Similarly, the Chief Minister said that federal government has also approved the PC-I of the Mataltan hydel power station while early approval of the Lawi project is also expected from the Central Development Working Party (CDWP). The provincial government, he said would complete these two projects at the cost of Rs.40 billion. He said that the cheap electricity produced from these two power projects would be utilized for the local industries to promote economic activities and generate employment in the province. On the apprehensions of the delegation, the chief minister clarified that the construction of 11 MW Karora Hydel Power Project in Shangla would harm no one in the area rather it would result in generating new opportunities of employment and economic development and would usher progress and development in whole district Shangla. Rejecting the apprehensions regarding the scarcity of water from the project in the area, the chief minister further clarified that neither he construction of dam nor water reservoir is included in the Karora Power Station, rather it would run on the flow of water and ruled out inflicting any damage to the grinding mills. He said that the provincial government is preparing separate irrigation and drinking water schemes, which would benefit the local residents. In response to the demand of the spending of 5% of net profit from the power station on the development of the area, he said that instead of 5% it is fixed at 10%, which part and parcel of the policy and this would be spent on the welfare of the local population. Agreeing with the demand of naming Karora Hydel Power Station after Raniyal Project, he said that whatever names the local gives to development schemes are acceptable to them. He said that they have differences to only naming schemes after the names of personalities. He said that the funds spend on the projects is public money and if some wanted to do it with the names of personalities then they should spend it from their own pocket, which is carried out by several welfare organizations and affluent. He said that they welcome private sector investment in any welfare project and any sector. The Chief Minister further clarified that the provincial government is going to move judiciary against federal government for achieving of net profit on hydel power generation and recovery of arrears in this regard, which has become matter of concern for centre.
