#HappeningNow: Cebu Football Association (CFA) holding a press conference on the brawl that happened Sunday during the Under-18 division of the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup. Heres initial info from Sun.Star Cebu sports editor Mike Limpag: • It is most unfortunate that it happened: CFA • On the 37th minute, a foul was committed by Alcoy. An Ateneo player made provocative verbal gesture. • Referee tried to intervene but one Alcoy player, after being separated by the referees, punched an Ateneo player. • Commotion ensued; spectator from Alcoy stepped in and hit 4 Ateneo players. • Alcoy FC coach identified spectator in meeting with CFA yesterday. • CFA: Spectators tried to pacify but somehow, something ugly happened. • CFA: We are also looking into culpability of coaches, officials. This opened our eyes to the fact that we cannot let people walk around in the venue. Only those with IDs can sit on the bench and we will add marshalls. We are here for everybodys enjoyment. We try to make sure everybody will enjoy the game. • CFA: Certainly, there will be changes in how the tournaments will be done, not just for Aboitiz Cup. The bigger responsibility ultimately lies on the coaches; focus on character development and values formation, not just skills. • CFA: We are going to meet with coaches and encourage them to talk to the parents. • We fear some kids will lose interest in football because of this incident.
