Happy 71st Birthday to Joni Mitchell, one of the greatest artists of our time. I witnessed her stunning line-up of players in LA, back in the early 80s, calling themselves, Dog Cheese. I was sitting stage right, next to Jonis husband, bassist Larry Klein, and in full sight of Mr.Vinnie Colaiuta. About halfway through their 1st set, a beautiful blonde walked in and sat right next to me, at my table. I turned, and there she was, the one and only, Joni, radiant with beauty and a warm smile that melted my heart as she said, hello. There I was, sitting between Joni Mitchell and Vinnie Colaiuta, feeling like an undeserving slice of meat nestled within a greatness sandwich. Little did I know that behind her physical beauty, and her artistic genius, was a physically and mentally tormented woman, plagued with polio her entire life, along with a number of other health issues that forced her to withdraw from the public eye.
