Happy 72nd birthday, Stephen Hawking! Hawking is the author of A Brief History of Time, and is one of the most highly regarded scientists of all time. Among his many publications, he and his daughter Lucy have collaborated to write a series of children’s books to teach the principles of space and astrophysics. At the age of 21, he was diagnosed with the motor neuron disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and was given just two years to live. Half a century later, Hawking continues to influence the field of theoretical physics and inspire countless people around the globe.
