Happy 82nd birthday to comedian and human rights activist Dick Gregory. We saw Gregory perform at his alma mater, SIU, about five years ago and hes still hilarious (though more than a bit loony at times). But I have always admired the way he sacrificed a successful and lucrative career for his political activism, as well as the way he opened up standup comedy so later black comedians like Richard Pryor would no longer have to be defensive about tackling racial issues.
