Happy Belated 64th Birthday to Tom Petty (October 20, 1950) American musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. He is best known as the lead vocalist of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, but is also known as a member and co-founder of the late 1980s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys (under the pseudonyms of Charlie T. Wilbury, Jr. and Muddy Wilbury) and Mudcrutch. Petty was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida and attended Gainesville High School. His interest in rock and roll music began at age ten when he met Elvis Presley. In April 1996, Petty received the UCLAs George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin Award for Lifetime Musical Achievement. The next month, Petty won the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Golden Note Award. He has 17 Grammy Award nominations and 3 wins. In 2002, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
