Happy Birthday America Psalm 33:12. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” As Christians, we grieve the steady abandonment by many, of the Christian principles and heritage that our nation was founded upon. We have become a largely post-Christian nation. But we can still pray for our country and set an example ourselves of Christian values. 2 Chronicles 7:14. “If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” Below are some quotes from God fearing public servants of the past. “It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and to implore His protection.” George Washington: Signer of the Constitution and 1st President. “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” John Adams: Signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights and 2nd President. “And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just and that His justice cannot sleep forever.” Thomas Jefferson: Signer and Principle Author of the Declaration of Independence and 3rd President. “I’ve lived, sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: That God governs in the affairs of men. If a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We’ve been assured in the sacred writings that unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. I firmly believe this, and I also believe that without His aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel.” Benjamin Franklin: Signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. “To the kindly influence of Christianity we owe that degree of civil freedom, and political and social happiness, which mankind now enjoys… Whenever the pillars of Christianity shall be overthrown, our present republican form of government – and all blessings which flow from them—must fall with them.” Jedediah Morse: Patriot and Educator. “The Bible is the best of all books, for it is the word of God and teaches us the way to be happy in this world and in the next. Continue therefore to read it and to regulate your life by its precepts. Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation, to select and prefer Christians as their rulers.” John Jay: Co-Author of the Federalist Papers and First Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. May God send revival to our great country and begin that with each of us so that those who follow us may find us faithful. Blessings, Steve Wilkins, Biblical Counselor
