Happy Birthday and Flashback James Curtis DeBarge (born August 22, 1963) is an American R&B and soul singer. He was one of the members of the singing family group DeBarge. Like all of his siblings, he was born and raised on the East Side of Detroit, Michigan. The family later relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan. During the discussion, James DeBarge – who was married for a split second to Michael Jackson’s sister Janet, opened up about a time when Michael saved him from committing suicide. “One time I was on the roof of [Michael’s] house…I was going to jump and everyone was losing it,” said James. Dr. Drew asked, “How did he stop you?” James answered: “He was the only one NOT freaking out! He seemed to be familiar with my pain…he knew I needed someone to talk to so he was that ear.
