Happy Birthday today (Sept. 7) to keyboardist Benmont Tench, best known as a founding member of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers; their popular recordings include American Girl, Breakdown, The Waiting, Learning to Fly, Refugee, Mary Janes Last Dance & I Wont Back Down; their 1991 album Into The Great Wide Open scored UK #3 & US #13; as a session musician, Benmont has also worked with the likes of Bob Dylan, U2, The Rolling Stones, Roy Orbison, Stevie Nicks, Johnny Cash, Don Henley, Lucinda Williams, John Prine, Ringo Starr, John Fogerty, Elvis Costello, The Ramones, Neil Diamond & countless others; he has received two ASCAP songwriting awards - in 1995 for Stay Forever (performed by Hal Ketchum) & in 2001 for Unbreakable Heart (performed by Jessica Andrews); in 2008, Benmont became part of roots music supergroup, Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.), releasing a self-titled album in 2009; he issued his debut solo album, You Should Be So Lucky, in 2014…
