Happy Funday Monday! Ive actually completely lost my voice due to Disney ride screaming(Whoo Hoo!), so this lesson will be typed. WHO ARE YOU, REALLY? I love this question, and tend to ask myself this periodically. Are you the same person that you portray online? If you are helpful, funny, aloof, or genuinely nice online, is that what you give off when meeting someone in person? We all have an online persona that we use, but its so important that the persona is similar to the real you. If you are building an online community, or are a writer who publishes online, readers connect and open their hearts to that person. If youre really an introvert offline, but exude the life of an extrovert, thats a red flag. While you may think that youre being genuine, fans that meet you offline may see it otherwise. Heck, brands or companies that you want to work with may see it the same way. Theres an easy way to fix this: take a poll. Ask 5 of your closest online and offline friends, and tell them to be as truthful as possible. See if the person you are on Facebook, twitter, etc, is the same person you are when you go for a coffee date or out to brunch. If there are discrepancies, task yourself to share a bit more about the real you. Make a video where you answer silly questions, write a piece explaining how your personality developed from childhood to now, or just share the nerves that you have (if any) when it comes to meeting new friends offline. Get vulnerable a bit. You wont regret it.
