Happy Labor Day everybody! Hope everybody has a chance this weekend to gather with good folks, consume food & beverage of choice, & hear some good music. While were at it, lets remember the working men & women of America who made it all possible. A century ago, thousands of people were displaced from the rural South & countless other places in Europe & Asia. They went where there was work. Men & boys mined the coal, swung hammers to build the railroads, and worked the killing floors at the stockyards. Women & children endured sweatshop conditions in garment factories & mills, Black workers & their families in particular had to endure the realities of racism & discrimination.They won their battles to secure improved & humane working conditions, & in the process they built America, & made it a stronger & better place. Their legacy also lives on in another place near & dear to us: the sounds, stories, & gritty energy of the Blues!
