Happy Memorial Day to all! Thanks to those past and current service men & women. Pictured here are twins Ernest Mitchell Murray and Lewis Charnley Murray who belonged to the New York Naval Reserve and were assigned as seamen to the auxiliary cruiser Yankee, along with eight other young men from Flushing in 1898. The Yankee participated in the one-day bombardment of Santiago, the most important naval engagement of the Spanish American War.
