Happy Mothers Day! It certainly was a good one for ATP #1 Rafael Nadal, who beat an ailing (back spasms) Ken Nishikori of Japan 2-6, 6-4, 3-0, to win the Madrid Masters 1000 this afternoon. The Spaniard moved into sixth place on the all-time tour-level titles list with 63, pulling to within one of Bjorn Borg and Pete Sampras. Nishikori, who will become the first Japanese to reach the ATP Emirates top 10 (Tomorrow) has played some good Tennis of late, and was vying to win the triple crown of Masters tournaments this season; he previously won an ATP 250 in Memphis, and a 500 in Barcelona. Oh Canada! Also in Madrid earlier this afternoon, Canadian Daniel Nestor & doubles partner Nenad Zimonjic (Serbia), beat the American Bryan Brothers (ATP Rank #1) 6-4, 6-2. Bob & Mike (Bryan) had a run of 24 consecutive victories come to an end; Nestor and Zimonjic are currently ranked # 2 in the ATP Emirates standings.
