Happy New Year! Its the birthday of author and biochemistry professor Isaac Asimov. You can turn to Asimov for inspiration in many ways, including productivity: he published over 300 books. Asimov is also eminently quotable. Heres what he had to say about the process of discovery: “The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds the most discoveries, is not Eureka! (I found it!) but Thats funny...” and The true delight is in the finding out, not in the knowing. Todays Challenge: The end of one year and the beginning of another is a time when many people look back and groan. Why did I do X? Why didnt I do Y? Why didnt _____ pan out? Lather, rinse, repeat. No, dont. Instead, ask yourself, What discoveries did I make last year? What did I learn? How much enjoyment did I take in the process? Did I pay attention to that, or was I so focused on the result that I missed the journey there? Then resolve not only to do some great things this year, but to notice what you discover along the way.
