Happy New Year Thornhill Woods. We hope that everyone has had a good winter break. We wanted to start the new year off by giving everyone a detailed update on the status of the Jaffari development application along with some potential next steps. Prior to the holiday break, The Preserve Thornhill Woods Association attended another working group session with city staff and the representatives of Jaffari Village. The purpose of the meeting was to review the revised concept plan that Jaffari submitted to the City of Vaughan on November 15. Here are the main details of the revised proposal: - Building heights have been reduced but additional buildings were added to spread the removed floors elsewhere around their property. - The proposed density of the development has increased. This means that more people may now be living within this development and the proposed density change may further frustrate our concerns about traffic, infrastructure and schools. - The revised proposal backtracks on previous commitments and feels like a step backwards. - There were offers to compromise on minor issues only if the community was willing to agree to the proposed density. - We felt that the new proposal goes against the spirit of the Vaughan Councils September 9 resolution and we were surprised by the magnitude of the changes. The meeting adjourned with Jaffari committing to a future meeting with the city’s technical staff to review the city’s firm requirements for this project. We are expecting Jaffari to address some of the city’s concerns but we are not hopeful that a reasonable compromise will be reached unless Jaffari makes some significant changes to their revised proposal. Councillor Sandra Racco was extremely supportive at the working group session and during multiple discussions that were held with her afterwards. We will continue to keep you updated on any developments related to this issue and we will stand our ground until the concerns of our community are properly addressed. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Like, Share and Comment to help spread this message. ------------- (491)
