Happy New Year.....family, friends, prosperity....Blah, blah, blah. Yeah, its all good and true, and all, but Id like to being this yearly cycle by giving a firm list of goodbyes. Goodbye, year-end countdown about events, politics, movies, music and the mundane! Goodbye to all the leftovers from hell, including, but not limited to that container of green beans that are never eaten. Goodbye, post-Christmas, pre-New Years, New Years, and post-New Years sales, clearances, blow-outs and returns. It has not been pleasant. Goodbye, piles of dead pine needles; though it isnt really goodbye, since your kinfolk are hiding in my baseboards and, somehow, in the cushions of my sofa until April. Goodbye, clear recollections of the positions of all my furniture before the holidays vomited all over my house. I hardly knew ye. Goodbye, horrible and hastily put-together marathons of Christmas-themed movies filled with unknown C-listers with 3 names and predictable conclusions. Goodbye to the dozens of boxes and the hundreds of plastic twist-ties that bind the thousands of already lost, broken and/or chewed-beyond-all-recognition toy parts, that will also join you at the local landfill. Goodbye, mass and cheaply produced holiday cookies. You are barely palatable for 11 months out of the year, but I shall be beating a path back to elfen doors, come late November.
