Happy Saturday Opportunity 23) BUSINESS OF ARTS MASTER CLASSES From 20-22 October The African Arts Institute in collaboration with The Artists Help Desk is offering artists its first ever Business of Arts Master Classes programme. It aims to equip artists with key tools to navigate the arts world as professionals and build on their success. It is geared towards musicians, visual artists, filmmakers, writers, actors and dancers who have products or services to sell but want to build on their knowledge and enhance their current skills, to generate income through their work. We have sought individuals who possess the potential to develop into fully professional artists with the right guidance and support. All our classes are now full and consist of artists with the discipline and commitment to succeed in the creative arts sector, welcoming those who have a passion for African thinking, aesthetics and development. The Artists Help Desk has endeavoured to secure a variety of prolific and expert facilitators to be part of the programme. They include: PERFORMANCE: Mamela Nyamza, a dancer, choreographer and development activist who is highly acclaimed and whose provocative work has earned her national recognition and international prestige. VISUAL ARTS: Born in Zimbabwe, Richard Mudariki is a full time painter who is known for his original modernist paintings full of social commentary on various issues in Africa. Cape Town based performative installation artist/curator Khanyisile Mbongwa uses movement, poetry and sculptural works in her practice. MUSIC: Heather Mac has had an illustrious music career spanning over 2 decades, starting in South Africa in the 80’s with rock band, Ella Mental, to the misty hills of Ireland, the sunny side of LA, recording with Warner Bros International and the glacial lake of the Montreux Jazz Festival. FILM: Mariza Matshaya is the CEO & Executive Producer of Rzalutionary filmworks. LITERATURE: Bulelwa Basse is a published and performance poet, public speaker, events co-ordinator, Programme Director and founder of Lyrical Base Project.
