Happy Sunday! Ever had anyone mock you? The sort of cynical and smart-mouthed individuals that tend to suck joy from whatever someone does? Well, Peter brings up such great individuals in the verse below. He wants to put to the forefront of our mind that in the last days scoffers will come. What is a scoffer? A person that ridicules, mocks, taunts or pokes fun at something or someone. So what are they mocking you may ask? Peter tells us that the scoffers are mocking the truth. What is the truth? Jesus proclaimed that he is the truth in John 14:6. In essence mockers are mocking Jesus and all that he is and has commanded. This mocking allows scoffers to mentally justify following their own desires. It is easy to follow ones own desires by downplaying the commands of Jesus. False teachers mock Jesus by not following his commands and following their own desires. Anyone that claims to be a believer that does not follow Jesus commands is a mocker or scoffer.
