Happy Sunday: In the movie THE GREAT DEBATERS Mr. Tolson (Denzel Washington) asked the question, Would you punch yourself in a fight, Mr. Burgess? Yesterday I attended a play (at a church) and I was terribly disappointed and insulted. The play was mostly an all Black cast with 1 Oriental guy but I heard jokes like she was so Black that every time she got out of the car, the oil light came on, and yeah, we sure do love to eat chicken, and there were the timeless references of Blacks being late and lazy all the time. But the audience was predominantly Black and most all thought it was funny. Negative stereo types that are meant to degrade, perpetuate and demoralize African Americans were being celebrated by African Americans. We call each other niggas/nigggers and pretend its now, somehow, been turned around to be terms of endearment; but we all know what happens when you try to polish a turd, right? Now Im asking Mr. Tolsons question, would you punch yourself in a fight? My scripture reference is (Eph 5:29) For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.. Be blessed.
