Happy Sunday, March 16, 2014, my friends! Glory and honor to The Lord who has kept us alive through the night and woke us up to enjoy a new day. Let’s worship Him in Spirit and in truth. Acts 19:2 “And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” At the onset let me state emphatically that anyone who has called upon the name of the Lord; has confessed that Jesus Christ is Lord and believes in his/her heart that God raised Jesus from the dead is saved. No question about that. But in order to be an effective witness for Jesus Christ we need power. Friend, the Holy Ghost/Spirit gives us the power we need to represent the Savior in word and action. Christianity is not a dead religion filled with liturgy, pomp and ceremony but a movement of believers filled with power; doing the things that Jesus did when He was on earth. That is the main reason believers were called Christians in the first place. They were doing the things that Jesus did: healing the sick, raising the dead, preaching and teaching, as they were led by the Holy Spirit. So, it was not uncommon in the early days of the Church for the more experienced disciples to ask new converts if they had received the Holy Spirit when they believed. Jesus, immediately before He was taken away into heaven, instructed His disciples to go to Jerusalem and wait/tarry until they received the Holy Spirit. In Acts 1:8 He said “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” We need the power of the Holy Spirit operating in our lives to be effective witnesses for Jesus Christ.
