Happy Thursday Karebear Angels! Mom had a better day than yesterday. She’s still in a lot of pain, but the swelling in her eye has gone down and she has started to open it. She is beginning to talk a bit more (mostly telling the nurses what NOT to do- haha) and met with a speech therapist today. Mom also had physical therapists come in and sit her on the edge of the bed to work with her. They had done this at Kindred, but she had to wear the crash helmet which caused her a lot of pain. Dad said that without the helmet she seemed to do a lot better sitting up and had an easier time focusing on the task at hand. Mom has what they refer to as a “right side preference”, meaning she is constantly turning her head to the right and looking to the right. We have been given strict orders by Dr. Giddy (the Supervisor of the CCU from Western Med) to do our best to not let her do this. If she continues to lean/look that direction too frequently it could cause permanent damage, so that’s what we’re working on fixing. Dad has learned some new towel folding/placement techniques in the past few days that seem to be pretty effective. Praying for patience and ease in this transition. They are hopeful that she will be removed from Western Med’s neurological floor tomorrow. Dad has been looking in to alternative hospital options that are better suited to fit her needs and also a bit more local. Now that her trach is completely removed (and closing/healing nicely I might add) she may be eligible for an acute care facility instead of a hospital. There are endless options for this sort of care and Dad has been keeping himself extra busy checking them all out. We have narrowed it down to a few different ones and hopefully will be able to lock in a decision tomorrow. I’ll be updating tomorrow to let you know if we made a decision and if not, where she is! As always much love to you all. XO KK
