Hard day at work today, hot outside, people are idiots, people don’t respect me, 12 hour work shift and now this crap, not enough that I do the same thing over and over take the same route with almost the same out come, nothing really improves. The air con still broken, petrol prices goes up and I am not seeing any increase in my pay. The equipment that I am suppose to make money with breaks all the time and my boss refuses to pay for the maintenance and repair and why should I care. i work my arse for my boss and every day and have to hand over the money I make to him at the end then I get my small share of the profit made. He sit everyday on his ass in a nice office and scream at me why am I not making more money. Then there are those days that there is so much more competition and I cannot full fill my quota, what am I supposed to do even after breaking laws and rules, pissing people of, then he deducts it from my pay. I work to life and if that means that I sometimes have to put others life’s is danger so be it. Now I am sitting in my taxi at the red light that turned green and red again, waiting to do my last run and then go home after a long day’s driving and what is waiting for me home I have no idea, hopefully there is electricity tonight, however now I am sitting here at this light while a lot of white people o bicycles is cycling past and not allowing me to go, then they swear at me as if it is my fault I am here, screw it is am going !! GET OUT OF THE WAY !!!! Ever thought that you and a Taxi driver have the problems in life, what might be going on in a taxi drivers life. These are some of the people on South Africa’s roads that we have to convince that we are good people and just want to cycle. Taxi drivers are the most disliked people on South African roads, and I don’t blame them for getting that reputation, we all have had our differences with them. However place your self in their shoe’s for a moment, driving a car for the whole day 10 to 12 hours, that is like driving down to Cape Town, everyday. dealing with other road users get frustrated in their working conditions and playing the system the best they can, even breaking road laws, They are not making a lot of money. Now a big group of majority middles class to upperclass of people cycling through town on a Friday night, some on bicycles more expensive than the taxi he is driving, closing a lane in front of him to which he needs to take to get home and his passengers. To him is exactly the same feeling to YOU when a taxi driver pulls in front of you pushes you out of the way, jumping a light or doing something ‘stupid’ that endangers somebodies life. That is not the point, get your head out of your ass and realise that you and ‘that’ taxi driver is in the exact same position in life to make a living. However he has a piece of metal around hime that weighs 20 times more than you and you have a pieces of composite material, aluminium or steel between your legs. Even though you feel you do not want to give him the respect as a working person, maybe give some respect to physics. I am not going to write this and expect to get away with no criticism and I am not justifying the behaviour of a Taxi driver or even knowing what really happens in the life of.... Just putting a thought out there that I see might be something. I see and understand the every situations on the roads this includes my own frustration on the road. People make mistakes takes chances, even myself and you do it, most of the time we get away with it and nothing bad happens, NOBODY is suppose to die on the roads, but they do. Understanding and placing your self in other people shoes might help to have a better understanding of what is happening to you and by doing this changing our mindset from being aggravated and irritated, to more calmer and understanding of a situation this in return changing our way of dealing with a situation. All I want to do is ride my bike.
