Harvey Dangers biggest hit was everywhere in 1998, and it has had legs (no pun intended) for a while afterwards as well. It showed up in the movies Disturbing Behavior, American Pie, and Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star. Its even the theme song to the british tv show, Peep Show. Now that Ive established that the song has made its rounds, can anyone tell me what its about? In some respects, I think it seems somewhat easy to decipher. After doing a little research on the song, Ive seen quite a few interpretations on what Flagpole Sitta is really about. 1) A breakup with a girlfriend. 2) Society causing you to lose your mind. 3) Military veterans getting screwed over by their country. 4) Masturbation. The weirdest one for me is #3. Personally, Id go with a mix of numbers 2 and 4. To me, it sounds like the guy is in a fragile mental state, and he might be unsuccessfully trying to make himself feel better. Who knows?
