Has it ever occurred to you that when discussing black on black violence, black gang violence in black neighborhoods, or overall crime rates in black neighborhoods- these neighborhoods are functioning exactly as they were intended to under hetero normative, capitalistic, white supremacist structures? And maybe thats why shootings make great news blurbs but kids who go off to college or activists working on stopping violence remain nameless? Maybe theres a reason why the people at the top of the power structure dont want it to be known that activism happens in black neighborhoods? could you imagine what would happen if governments were suddenly forced to spend tax dollars equally between black and white neighborhoods? How much money would be lost if the school to prison pipeline collapsed? What would happen if slavery was truly illegal? what would happen if black communities were given the power to heal? Some people have a lot to lose if activists are successful. Maybe thats the real reason mainstream folks are taught to think black people dont try to improve their neighborhoods?
