Has social media hurt the worlds view of Christianity? I have to - TopicsExpress

Has social media hurt the worlds view of Christianity? I have to admit that I see some irrational and emotionally-driven comments about God and faith on Facebook and Twitter that disturb me. Some of it is indicative of lazy theology and some of just plain spiritualized superstition. Take, for example, the circular reasoning many Christians use regarding difficulties or suffering. If it works out, we say God is good all the time; if it doesnt, we say God works in mysterious ways. The unbeliever just shakes his head and wonders why a Christian cant just admit that some things simply...well, suck. We talk of angels as if they are pets, material wealth as blessings, and sickness as the hand of Satan. What we need is a more intelligent and more compassionate Christianity. We need to speak to and with unbelievers, not AT them. We need to engage in meaningful dialogue about the worlds pressing problems, not merely demonize those who disagree with us. Is Jesus King of kings and Lord of lords? Absolutely. Is God in control? You bet He is. Is the world hurting and in need of a Savior? Of course. But if Christians will but communicate the love of God and the consistent and infallible teachings of the Word, and not relegate faith to the realm of self-help and pop-psychology, the world might just take us seriously and embrace the life-changing Gospel of Christ. Just me two cents.
