Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:5-7 Several years ago at our church, I walked in one morning to see that many of our high school boys had shaved their heads completely bald. Wondering what was going on, I pulled one of them aside and asked why everyone had shaved their heads. “Well, Pastor,” the young man said, “I know you’ve heard about Rob.” Rob was a young man in our youth program who was being treated for cancer. As a result of the chemotherapy, he had lost all of his hair. “We didn’t want Rob to feel alone with his hair gone. So we all shaved our heads!” That stands in my mind today as one of the most Christ-like examples of love I’ve ever seen. Sharing in the pain of someone you love and humbling yourself to the point of becoming like that person. It’s a beautiful example of Jesus! Maybe you have people in your life today who are hurting. The example of Jesus is clear: Step into their world and suffer alongside them. Be a friend of their wounded heart. Bear their pain and sorrows, and you’ll lift your friends up in their time of need! LIFT UP YOUR FRIENDS IN DARK TIMES BY STEPPING INTO THEIR WORLD AND BEARING THEIR PAIN WITH THEM.
