Have you ever dug a big root of ginseng and find another separate big root right beside it without a top? Read on to find out about something that was even better than finding a bonus root of sang... A double blessing! January 7, 2015 was one of the best days of my life! I got to spend the day with my Dad on the last day of his life on earth. 5:00am Phone vibrated with a text from my sister Kathy. 5:10am Called my sister and let her know I’d be at the hospital shortly. 8:30ish at the hospital and Dad was unsettled and somewhat agitated after a long night in the ER… He was admitted to a room around 5am. It worked out perfectly to be alone with Dad and read the 23 Psalm to him and pray with him. He tried over and over to say “I love you.” After a good morning hanging out with Dad and some of my sisters and a friend named Diane who has been a tremendous help and blessing to our family during Mom and Dad’s sickness, they came in to give Dad what would be his last bath and we slipped into the “sun room” next door to allow his bath. I chatted with a couple about who was in the hospital and was told it was the lady’s mother who was battling cancer for about three years, the same amount of time that Dad fought it. They said they would love for me to come and pray with her mother and I said that I would love to do that also. So I went with them and met Ruby who was apparently suffering a lot from her sickness. I introduced myself and offered to pray for Ruby and followed with the question, Are you sure you are right with the Lord? She said, No, and that sometimes she wondered about it. So after a few questions based on the Biblical plan of salvation and a few verses, Ruby stated that she wished to accept Jesus as her Savior. She did and I visited a good while giving her many verses that teach the assurance of salvation. Larry Dean, Ruby’s companion, was there smiling and hovering over me and listening. I promised to return and visit with them later. Back in the sun room, Ruby’s other daughter and son in law were sitting and I got to witness to them and share my testimony. About that time my sister came in and motioned for me to come into Dad’s room. He had stopped breathing and there was no pulse at all for about 2 or 3 minutes. I figured he was gone and laid my ear to his chest and it was totally quiet. I can not tell you how much peace we felt at that moment. The Lord was there in that room. He had laid in that same position for the last three hours and simply fell asleep. There was no struggle whatsoever. Plain and simple. The Lord took him. He died just as easily and quietly as Mom did in July. So many of the family made their way back to the hospital and we had a great time comforting one another and praying together. Later we shared some good memories of Dad there in the room while we waited for others to get there and also later in the sun room. We were about through and I slipped back down the hall to see Ruby and her family. After a good visit sharing more on assurance of salvation according to the Bible, I asked Larry Dean if he was right with the Lord. He had that same grin and said, Yes. Ruby said, no he’s not either; he needs to rededicate his life to the Lord. I looked at him and asked, “Have you invited Jesus into your heart?” He said “YES”… so I asked when he did that. He grinned real big and said I did it this morning when she did! There’s you a double blessing and a double rejoicing in Heaven over two sinners that repented. Ain’t God good? And look at how God used the circumstance of my Daddys passing from this life to get Ruby and Larry Dean the spiritual guidance they needed! God IS good! Amen.
