Have you ever wondered why MOSTLY only a particular group of pages and friends status updates always appears in your facebook newsfeed? Some time ago i kept wondering why i never saw the status update of some of my cousins and personal friends i knew on my facebook friend list but now i do! And i know you want me to tell you...lol Ok these is how it works: Facebooks guiding principle is that d News Feed should be full of stuff Facebook users want to see. According to a recent report by facebook; its new algorithm would favor high quality stories over memes. Meaning that what shows on your newsfeed is what facebook believes you want or like to read, view or play! Before i continue, take note that when u understand how stuff works u can effectively utilize them to your desired objectives! So if u are an ordinary facebook user or also a page admin (you have a page that u wish to promote, perhaps for political, business educational and entertainment reasons) your knowledge about how facebook news feed works will definately be advantagious to u. I happen to be a content creator of a page having over 20,000 fans and each time i make a post on the page facebook tells me that only about 2000 people saw the post and i used to get angry for i wanted more people to see the posts and hence atract more comments and likes! I know you are itching to know the reason. dont worry just relax am coming to that shortly! Perhaps You have probably heard about Facebook’s # algorithmfor sorting posts in users’ News Feeds. It’s called # EdgeRank Well an Algorothm is a procedure or formula for solving a problem. A computer program can be viewed as an elaborate algorithm. In mathematics and computer science, an algorithm usually means a small procedure that solves a recurrent problem. Now what happens when you as a facebook user have over a thousand facebook friends that are always active and updating their timeline/commenting in pages, groups and their friends posts and you perhaps probably have liked tens or hundreds of active pages! how would facebook programme or arrange the sequence of status and post that should show on your news feeds? The News Feed algorithm uses several factors to determine top stories, including the number of total generated comments, who posted the story, and what type of post it is for example if its a photo, video, link or ordinary writeup for a status update! So now theres just a lot more content going into your News Feed and Facebooks struggles to figure out how to get the right stories to the top. Facebook’s algorithm for sorting posts in users’ News Feeds, is known as EdgeRank EdgeRank is made of three parts – marketers control two of them they are; # affinity # weightand # time_decay. Here is what they mean, if you are managing a Facebook Page: Affinity is your relationship with users. It means that the amount a user has interacted with your Page in the past affects how likely they are to see your posts. So if they have clicked your links, liked or commented on your posts in the past, EdgeRank assumes they are pretty keen to see more of your stuff, and gives it higher priority in that user’s News Feed. Weight is how much priority EdgeRank gives to your post, based on the post type. Facebook has a hierarchy of post types, since some types garner more engagement than others. Photos and videos take top priority. Links are second, and plain text status updates are at the bottom. Interaction from other users can also affect this weight. For instance, comments are more weighty than likes, but both affect the overall weight of the post. So a text-based status update with 50 likes and 10 comments will be more likely to show up in the Newsfeed than a photo with no engagement at all! Time decay simply means how old is your post? The longer your post has been on Facebook, the less likely it will be able to show up in a user’s News Feed. however For users who only drop-in to Facebook once or twice a week, your post will be relevant for longer than it would have been for those users who check in twice a day or are constantly on facebook! An update to the News Feed algorithm called Last Actor. This algorithm takes note of the last 50 interactions you have had on Facebook and gives content from those same users or Pages more prevalence in your feed. So if a user interacts with your Page in the morning, your contents that afternoon or the next day will be more likely to show up in their feed (assuming they haven’t had another 50 interactions already) SUMMARY AND OTHER THINGS TO NOTE! 1.If u want a friends post or page to always show in ur news feed always like and comment in their updates! 2.If u want more of your friends to see ur status update in their news feed atach a picture to it! Like and Comment on the post as much as! Possible 3.if u admin a page pay facebook some dolars for ads! And encourage interaction between fans in ur page (this also increases d TALKING ABOUT)
