Have you had your Air Conditioner Serviced??? Everybody gets their cars serviced regularly, but what about your air conditioners? Living in the Top End means that we experience many very hot days (and nights) and it’s imperative that our air conditioners are in good shape so that we can live in comfort. The benefits of getting your air conditioner serviced are: • Reduces the chances of a major and costly breakdown, • Your air conditioner will run more efficiently, • A lot of air conditioner warranties will be void if they have not been regularly serviced as per the manufacturer’s instructions, • They will live longer! What is involved in a service? • Cleaning of evaporator coils/filters and barrel fans • Cleaning of condensing units • Oil the fan motors (if required) • Tightening of electrical connections inside and out • Commission – test run, check amp draws and pressure check if required Tips: • In the wet season do you arrive home from work and set your air conditioner to 18 or 19 degrees to cool the room down quickly? This doesn’t work! Your air conditioner will cool your room down at the same rate whether you set it to 18 degrees or 24 degrees! Set your temperature to what you want the room to be. • For every degree lower you set your unit to, you increase your operating costs by up to 10%! Try to keep your unit running at about 24 degrees, or as high as you can be comfortable. • Keep doors and windows closed to keep the cool air in and close curtains and blinds to keep the sunlight out. • Check your filter every month, if it looks dirty remove and clean it. Filters should be cleaned every 3 months at minimum and more so during the wet season. Dirty filters slow down air flow and make your air conditioner work harder than it needs to. • Call Power Projects NT to get your air conditioner serviced!
